Why it's important to pretend as if you already are
On manifesting 5k last month, pretending as if you already are, saving time vs. money
Hi friends & new subscribers,
Greetings from Montreal!
I missed my newsletter last week. I’m so involved in so many projects online and offline, I simply forgot about it. Missing that newsletter finally prompted me to build a system in Notion. (So, that’s a win).
I'm pleased to say that during my money mindset program, I manifested my income goal of $5k/month.
Although, a big chunk of that came from my current nursing job.
But I did have a big win of crossing my 1,000 online income this month.
What I learning from this program is that money comes out of nowhere and it is everywhere (remember the abundance mindset?).
I found $200USD + $40EUR because one day, I randomly felt like cleaning my second bedroom. I also found five different gift cards worth $100+ lying around the house.
When you pay attention to your present, you recognize and acknowledge that you have a lot.
Sometimes, even more.
Shout out to Gabby for letting me know how she liked my last newsletter since I was worried that it came off as braggy.
I think it's so important that we talk about money in an open-minded way.
Pretend as if you already are
Two weeks ago, I talked about embodying your future self.
This is a practice I've been using in my creator journey. I have a vision of what the "successful version" of me looks like.
The trick to becoming that person is pretending as if you're already that person.
These days, I'm "pretending" as if I'm already someone who makes a lot from doing things that I love. I'm pretending that I already have the money that I dream of in my bank account. I'm pretending that I'm already working with my dream clients.
Here's something you might not know: the brain cannot distinguish reality from imagination. Ever wondered why you physically feel stressed by thinking things that haven't even happened yet?
But instead of seeing that as a weakness, we can use this to our advantage.
By "pretending" (aka imagining) that you're already that person that you want to become, you're actually becoming one. This is pretty much how I've managed to grow so quickly online and how I made my first 1k writing.
When you do this, your brain comes up with solutions, with ideas of how to get you "there." Because you are already that person you want to be, the results that you want, show up in your reality.
Here's a tiny exercise you can try out today:
Pick one thing you've been wanting to do (develop a specific habit, write more, less time off social media).
Set some alone time envisioning the person you're trying to be. Be super specific in your imagination. (How are they acting, how are they feeling, how are they behaving, what do you see in your surroundings, who are you with). Make it so vivid that it feels true right now.
Hold on to the feeling of "true", and pretend that you're already the person for the next week. Notice how your thoughts, behaviour and feelings change. Write them down.
Let me know if you did this exercise and how it went for you :).
Would you rather save time or save money?
I finally finished reading The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel.
This is my takeaway: every individual behaves differently when it comes to money because we all have different relationships with money. You shouldn't take money advice from others because we all have different goals. What might be logical to you might be totally crazy to another person simply because of what they think about money.
This finally explains why I'd rather pay the extra fee for having a roboadvisor instead of picking my own stocks like my partner. Rather than avoiding the "fine" or high cost of participating in the passive investment strategy, I think of it as an admission fee. I'd rather save time than money.
My question for you this week:
Am I spending my time and energy on the things that are truly important to me?
As always, I'd love to know your feedback, questions or comments, so don't hesitate to reach out on Twitter 🙂.
