I'm typing this in a coffee shop with my husband across from me, sitting in the beautiful weather of Medellin, Colombia.
If you didn't know, Medellín's nickname is “ la Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera”, which means, the city of eternal spring.
Just before this moment, I was in a hot yoga class with a group of people who were clearly into taking care of themselves. Yesterday, I took my first bachata class in a very long time and learned some new moves.
I honestly don't think I've ever felt more happiness than I do right now—to come to a tropical country, escape the Canadian winter weather, and do things I absolutely love.
With this in mind, I recognize that my current life is a luxury.
Not everyone can afford to take time off for more than a week or do remote work if their jobs don't allow it (like nurses, doctors, cooks, etc.) or whatever their life circumstances are.
And living this life, I realized how much money can buy happiness.
Being in a warm weather makes me happy. Yoga makes me happy. Taking dance classes makes me happy.
All of these require money depending on where you are and what stage you are in your life. If you live in a very cold weather place like Canada, being in a place with warm weather requires money for flights and hotels.
If you live in the suburbs, taking in-person yoga classes can be quite expensive, especially if you need a car to attend those classes.
So, with my dream lifestyle, I need a lot of money for my happiness.
I'm not saying you need to have money to be happy, but I'm saying that once you work on yourself—your self-worth, self-concept, and self-esteem—the money you have or will obtain can bring your happiness to the next level.
The inner work is a prerequisite for your dream lifestyle. You have to learn how to be grateful for your current situation with what you have. Once you have more abundance, you'll learn that money is a tool to enhance your life.
Money doesn't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a better quality of life, which, if you complement it with working yourself, can lead to happiness.
How about you? Do you believe that money buys happiness?
