💌 How much would you sell your personal brand for?
Being on the right path, note-taking, and spending habits
Hi friends & new subscribers,
I recently finished a Korean drama called Reborn Rich.
It's about a man murdered by his employers, only to be reincarnated as the youngest grandson in his employers' family (in the past).
The entire show revolves around the story of "who's going to take over Korea's biggest company?"
With that, siblings and nephews would fight each other to prove their worth to become the next successor.
The youngest grandson's goal is to take over the company as revenge for being murdered in his past life.
In the process, the grandson would ask his uncle and aunts for their company shares. But they refused to sell, no matter how much he offered. He deliberately made them in debt so they'd have no choice but to sell.
His repetitive offers made me wonder how much I would sell my brand for.
Would I sell it if I woke up tomorrow and someone offered me a million dollars for my brand and stopped what I'm doing right now?
This assumes I'd have no control over my writing, storytelling, etc.
And honestly, the answer is no.
Because right now, despite barely making any money, I enjoy what I do a lot.
And this thought gave me relief and validation that I'm on the right path. Even though I'm on a pathless path.
So if you're ever confused about whether you're on the right path, ask yourself, "how much does someone need to pay me to stop doing what I’m doing?"
I bet you'd have a pretty solid answer.

Get in the habit of note-taking.
As a writer, you depend on ideas. And these ideas usually come from watching TV shows, reading articles, scrolling on social media, or living your life.
And more often than not, we'll have really good ideas worth sharing. But sometimes, we forget about them because we don’t take notes.
We think, "That’s a good idea. I should write about that.” And then we move on.
But like David Allen said, author of Getting Things Done, "your brain is for having ideas, not for holding them."
So instead of relying on your brain to remember, get in the habit of note-taking. It doesn't have to be fancy. It can be as simple as using pen and paper or the Notes app on your phone.
So when it's time to write, you're never staring at a blank page.
