My money coach told me to be grateful for what I have today
money mindset update, practicing gratefulness, email coach me
Hi friends & new subscribers,
How are you?
I feel like it's been ages since I've sent my last newsletter since many things have happened.
As I mentioned last week, I signed up for a 30-day money mindset program, and I'm currently on week 2. And I realized some conditioned limiting beliefs about money.
Some self-limiting beliefs that I'm actively working on:
I need to struggle and work hard to make money
Making money is easy for everyone but won't be for me
I don't deserve to make a certain income UNTIL I've proven to someone (or myself) that I deserve that income
And these beliefs show up in my behaviour as:
Working really hard makes me burnt out
Self-sabotaging myself (e.g. I procrastinate on my cold pitching strategies or writing)
I do more things than I need to when it comes to writing instead of sticking to my simple plans
I realized that the root cause of all of this is because I don't believe that I'm worthy of creating the income that I truly want. I simply don't think that I deserve my dream income without working hard for it.
Which is why reconditioning our mind and catching ourselves when we have self-limiting beliefs is SO SO important.
It's going to be a long process to dig deep into this issue. But the instructor did give an immediate antidote as to how to keep showing up and eventually make your income a reality.
Why you need to be grateful for what you have now
I once heard someone say,
"You can't get what you want by focusing on what you don't have."
As part of the hustle culture, our mind is conditioned on the "what's next" attitude. What should I get now? Where should I travel next? What next achievement should I go for? We are so blindly focused on things that we don't have to appreciate the things we do have.
I was so focused on finding out the activities online that will help me create my dream income of 5 - 10k/month that I forgot to appreciate what I have right now.
One of the exercises I did was to count how much money you have in your bank account.
For context, I am quite frugal when it comes to things. I always look for the cheapest thing (except for travel) to save money. And while there's nothing wrong with that, I didn't realize I was operating from a scarcity mindset. That is when you focus on things you don't have whether that's money, food, or whatever else you're thinking of.
According to Psychology Today, scarcity orients the mind automatically and powerfully toward unfulfilled needs.
So I was always focused on "saving and investing" because I was scared of running out and believe that I didn't have enough.
I became good at managing my money because of that mindset, so it's not terrible. But I never once sat down and be grateful for what I have achieved with my money. I also never bothered to know how much I currently have right now.
After calculating all the money I had in my bank account, stocks, and other investments, I realized I had A LOT.
I couldn't believe it. I was like, "why the f am I so worried about running out of money."
Just to give you a hint, I have over 5 figures saved up as my "assets."
Suddenly, I felt abundant. My energy shifted to "wow, I have created a lot of money with a scarcity mindset. I wonder how can I create money with an abundant mindset?"
And what I learned about having an abundance mindset is that "abundance attracts abundance." So when you are grateful for what you have right now, like genuinely feel like you have a lot, you'll start to see more opportunities and more ways to create even more abundance in your life.
Whatever abundance means for you.
This is why being grateful is such a powerful practice. Because if you can't be grateful for what you have, what would happen if you get the thing that you truly want?
My question for you this week is,
"How can I be genuinely grateful for what I have today? And how can I incorporate this into my practice?"
Also, I’m grateful for all the 57 people I have in this newsletter.
Email Coach Me:
An experiment for this newsletter. After all, it's called the Roaming Heart. I'll send the following question every email, and I'll send you an in-depth answer that I'll share with everyone the following week.
Email Coach Me (let's call it like this for now):
"What are you struggling with right now (in terms of mindset, creator economy or entrepreneurship), and how can I help you?"
I didn't write any Medium articles this week :(. But here’s an atomic essay on creator impostor syndrome.
P.S. As always, I'd love to get your feedback/comments/questions. And if you liked this newsletter, please don't hesitate to share it with others.
