Hi friends & new subscribers,
Hello from Calgary!
I still can't believe that it's been a week since my wedding announcement. We're going back to Toronto tomorrow. But I wanted to share that it's been an absolute blast. If you have any questions about the process of eloping, let me know.
I'd be happy to answer any questions.
This past week, I've had some time to fall back in love with travel and reflect on my life as a whole, so I wanted to talk about a deep topic: finding your true purpose.
🧘 On finding your true purpose
I started writing back in October 2020.
It's almost been a year, and a lot has happened. This time last year, I was struggling to show up at my work as an Emergency nurse. I had a quarter-life identity crisis, and I absolutely had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted so badly to learn how to make money online that I bought every online course out there. It felt like a waste of money, but I didn't care.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
I can definitely say that I was at rock bottom. But the good thing about being at rock bottom is that the only way is to go up. And so that's what I did.
I shut down my social media for 4 months. I wrote. I did Yoga. I got a life coach. I did a lot of inner work. I wrote online with no expectations. And doing those repeatedly for almost a year has transformed my life.
A year ago, I was trying to figure out "my life purpose," and today, I've accepted that my purpose is to just be.
I've learned that this so-called "purpose" has nothing to do with your career, profession or what you do in this world. Instead, it has to do with the person that you want to be in this world. Your "purpose" is learning about things that you genuinely value — whether that's love, money, creativity. And accepting that you are worthy of experiencing all those things.
Your purpose in life is to experience the things you want to experience.
So how exactly do you find your true purpose?
You find it by taking action every single day towards your life goals.
It doesn't matter what your goal is. It doesn't even matter how small that action is. But the most important thing is you taking action even if it feels like nothing is happening.
If your goal is to be wealthy, the big actions can look like this:
learning how to manage your money
learning how to save up or invest
learning how to start a business
And the small actions can look like this:
setting aside an hour every day to research how to invest your money
being mindful of what you spend every single day (needs vs. wants)
automating a monthly deposit to an investment/savings account
This principle can be applied to every single area of your life: business, relationships, career, health, and spirituality.
So I personally believe that your true purpose is to get to know yourself and go after what you want in life.
✍️ Writing Journey:
Freelancing while travelling is giving me a digital nomad lifestyle vibe.
Since I'm only working with one client at this time, I'm not very stressed. But I noticed that I think a lot about my project while I'm travelling. I can see this being a downside of working remotely permanently.
And I got reminded of one of the things I love about my nursing job: as soon as I'm out of the hospital door, I'm no longer thinking about my work. I think that's a reminder that having a stable job isn't as terrible as online entrepreneurs make it seem to be.
P.S. Last month, I submitted a story to Thought Catalog publication. I got rejected the first time, but we know that in the Internet world, rejection means try again next time. And so I did. I’m happy to share that my second attempt got accepted. The story was even featured in their adulting category, which is amazing.
🤔 A question for you this week:
If you died tomorrow, would you be proud of your life legacy?
