We spend a lot of our time on social media. A day goes by, and we tell ourselves, “wow, where did my day go?”
I quit Instagram 3 months ago, and since then, I’ve gotten to know myself better. I spend more time doing activities that I truly like, and just be more present in life.
Overall, it has benefited me in ways that I couldn’t imagine.
Now, I’m daring you to do it for one day. It will require a lot of self-discipline. But I know that you can do it, and hopefully, you can feel the benefits right away.
The One Day Challenge:
Pick a day that you want to try it out. The night before, uninstall the app from your phone if you can do it on the night before your day off.
When you wake up the next day, you will grab your phone. If Instagram is the first thing you check when you wake up, be aware of this habit. It’s not a bad habit, but by doing that, you’re not letting yourself think for yourself. My hope is that you learn to think for yourself.
After your usual morning routine (without checking social media), think of what you’d like to do today. Ask yourself, “what do I want to today?”.
Don’t confuse it with the question of “what should I do today?”. It’s not about what you need to but what you feel like doing. If that question is too much, let’s break it down even more. “What do I want to do now?” And listen to what your mind says. Maybe you’re hungry, and you want to eat. Maybe you feel like writing. Maybe you feel like reading a book. Whatever it is, do it. Follow this question throughout the day.
Record all the things that you wanted to do for the day. Did you have extra time? Did you feel short on your time? Were you able to do everything you wanted?
I remember when I first quit, I felt that I had all the time in the world. I was able to actively explore to do things that I enjoyed.
I hope that this challenge serves you in the same way. And I hope that even for one day you were able to make the most out of your time.
