Hi friends & new subscribers,
How are you all? We are now a family of 53 people—crazy :O :O.
Thank you for being here.
I missed last week’s issue because I didn’t feel like sending anything. I didn’t feel like sitting and writing down because I really didn’t believe that I had anything to say at that time.
I want to be more intentional about the digital footprint I leave on the Internet.
I know that most successful people will say that you have to be consistent no matter what.
I don’t believe that you should be doing things just because that’s what you’ve been told. Maybe it’s worked for them, but I always encourage you to look within and ask if external advice people tell you will work for you.
Anyway, I’m here in your inbox today because I’d like to share something this week.
Dichotomous Thinking
Oftentimes, we think that there are only two options when making decisions or doing things in life.
This is where you think that things are black and white. They are good or bad. They are right or wrong. They are rich or poor. I either have to do this or do that. There’s no in-between.
This thought came to me as I became stuck thinking that I could only be one person but not another. If you didn’t know before, I first tried to become an online coach, but that didn’t really speak to me as writing did. So I pivoted. I said I’m going to learn how to write well and build an audience.
After, I would start to create services and offers for my audience. But I felt impatient. I wanted to learn how to monetize now. So here I am, trying out the freelancing journey and thinking that I can’t become a freelancer while also becoming the online entrepreneur I aspire to be.
To me, they felt and looked different. It felt like being a freelancer meant still working for someone else vs. an entrepreneur, where I get to make all the calls.
But I realize there’s a third option.
I can find freelancing projects that I care about (and really enjoy) to reduce my day job hours while also sharing what I learn online. And later on, when I’ve built enough audience, I create offers, products and services that people want.
I thought I had to either pick “build an audience now or freelancing, but you can’t have both.” But just like everything else in life, some things will probably take longer, especially if you have family that you want to spend quality time with.
So we have to learn how to balance, be more intentional, to be more patient with ourselves and our situations.
My question for you this week,
“Have I explored all the other possibilities to make my desired reality happen, or am I thinking in black and white?”
I can assure you that whatever you’re thinking of or whatever difficulty you’re having right now, there’s a third option.
I encourage you to reflect on it.
And let me know if you need help navigating a third option for what you’re going through right now.
