Hi friends and subscribers,
Are you an escapee or an embracer?
I was listening to a podcast episode a few weeks ago, and there’s one thing that resonated with me that I thought I’d try:
Embracing the season.
The podcast host lives in Vancouver, and in winter, she’d feel depressed and sad.
This also happens to me, living in the colder side of Canada, Toronto. When this happens, I try to escape the winter season by traveling to the tropicals for at least four weeks.
But during the podcast episode, she mentioned that her family members called her out on her complaints during those times.
So instead of feeling “blah” during the wintertime, she tried to embrace the winter season.
She learned how to ski, rented a cabin, and did winter activities like hosting hot chocolate parties.
Doing this helped her embrace the winter season instead of escaping it.
Similarly, I’m in a busy season as a travel nurse. I don’t have as much time and energy to write because I work 50 to 60 hours a week (hence why this newsletter is two weeks late.)
I’m learning to embrace this season by accepting that I can’t do everything I want as planned.
Instead, I give myself slack and work on my priorities to not burn out.
Currently, that’s going to my 12-hour shifts, eating healthy meals, making time for workouts, slowly making YouTube videos, and writing newsletters.
My routine these days is so different from when I was back home, where I’d wake up, take a few hours to myself, get to work, take breaks, go for a walk with my hubby, cook together, etc.
If you also thrive in chaos, embracing your life seasons is one way to overcome the overwhelming feeling when things change.
The best part of this whole thing is that if you don’t like where you are, you can reassure yourself that this season will pass.
So what do you think, is this something you feel like you need to work on?
